Stephen Melillo ，美國知名作曲家，作品內容廣泛，包括電影、電視影集配樂及合唱、管樂、管弦樂等約 1,000 部的創作。曾於 1995 - 2002 年連續八年獲得美國作曲家、作家與出版業協會（ ASCAP, American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers ）管樂大獎。

近年來，世界各地包括美國、歐洲、日本等地區的管樂團都興起了一陣演奏 Stephen Melillo 作品的風潮，除了各個樂團均能找到適合自己程度的曲目演奏之外，其作品旋律優美、層次豐富、結構完整、張力十足，適合選用為音樂會或比賽的曲目更是主要的原因。

本錄音共收錄 16 首難度 2 - 3 級、專為初級樂團而作的作品。這些曲子可以視為一套組曲，也可以各自獨立分別演出，最大的特色是每首曲子都針對樂團的問題，解決某個節奏或是音程，是適合訓練樂團的練習曲目。
